Haffla Hijinks!
Written by Veils of Gold
Veils of Gold and WOWKAL had a WOW of a time at this year's Haffla!

THE Brookman Street theatre was transformed into a fertile Oasis on June 27 and 28 as the Veils of Gold bellydancers descended on the building for their annual Haffla.
Dancers shimmied, shook and sashayed across the stage in a variety of duo, trio and troupe dances; presenting a colourful tale with the help of WOWKAL duo Kevin Blair and Lisa van Oyen.
Blair as Sheikh WearsShaDosch and van Oyen as Princess Chastity kept the laughs coming throughout the night as the story came to life. This year a new character, Queenie the Genie was also introduced to the Arabian tale, with the dynamic duo recruiting a fellow actor, Andrew Smith. (You can see Kev and Andy above, getting in touch with their... feminine... sides... hmmmmmm)

“Reporter Gone Mad” by John Taylor (JT) is the story of a TV news anchorman whose life is in disarray. His wife, children and mistress are all abandoning him, his colleague is deceiving him and then he discovers his contract is about to expire and won’t be renewed for another term. The only way he can achieved a redundancy payout is if the network fires him, so he sets about doing every zany crazy and improbable thing to make that happen.

Starring: Andrew Smith, Julian Canny, JT, Beccy Forster, Melissa Watson and Natasha Harslett.

“Brothers and Sisters” has been written by youngsters Julian Canny and Zach Hawke. It tells the tale of a babbling group of nuns and monks who are battling it out for much-needed finances. Their determination takes them to extreme lengths – including having to appear on a bizarre TV game show hosted by the radical Bishop Springer, whose futuristic ideas are well at odds with the traditions of the Catholic Church.

Starring: Marie Molloy, Natalie Dowd, Joanne Aperios, Andrew Smith and Kevin Blair.

And finally, the first episode of the series “The Vicar of Dibley” called “The Arrival” will be directed by Marie Molloy. The scene is set in the little village of Dibley as the parishioners await the arrival of their new vicar, following the recent death of their elderly incumbent. They are expecting a “balding man with a beard, a big bible and bad breath” instead they get Geraldine Grainger – “A babe with a bobcut and a magnificent bosom!”

Starring: Janet Moore, Kevin Blair, John Rees, Owen Hinton, Phil van Oyen, John Taylor (JT), Lisa van Oyen and Joanne Aperios.
